Contrary to recent speculation, Apple may not be cutting production of the new iPhone Air after all. A fresh report from TD Cowen suggests that Apple’s manufacturing plans for 2025 remain unchanged — signaling steady demand for the company’s thinnest-ever smartphone.

Rumors Sparked After Early Reports

Following the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup and the new iPhone Air, several industry reports claimed Apple was scaling back production. Some analysts suggested that weaker-than-expected demand had led Apple to reduce its build targets for the model.

However, those claims appear to have been premature. According to a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider, TD Cowen reports that Apple is not altering its iPhone Air production levels for the remainder of 2025.

TD Cowen’s Report Sets the Record Straight

In its latest supply chain research, TD Cowen emphasizes that there are no changes to Apple’s iPhone forecasts for October — including the iPhone Air. The firm’s “field work” in the supply chain found that build volumes remain steady at 3 million units for Q3 and 7 million units for Q4 of 2025.

For the entire iPhone 17 family, the September quarter builds hold at 54 million units, with 79 million units projected for December — showing stability across the board.

Conflicting Industry Reports

TD Cowen’s findings contradict earlier reports from Mizuho Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, and Nikkei, which claimed Apple was slashing iPhone Air output by as much as 90% starting in November. Those sources suggested the model had entered an “end-of-production mode” due to tepid consumer demand.

However, TD Cowen’s analysis paints a different picture — one of normal production activity and a balanced supply chain. Apple’s just-in-time manufacturing approach allows it to make rapid adjustments, which may explain some of the apparent discrepancies between analyst forecasts.

Business as Usual for Apple

Despite differing analyst opinions, the reality is that Apple’s production strategies evolve dynamically. Early iPhone sales often skew toward Pro models, while mainstream models like the iPhone Air typically gain traction later in the cycle.

As a new addition sitting between Apple’s Pro and standard lines, the iPhone Air occupies a unique market segment — and its demand patterns may simply take longer to stabilize. For now, reports suggest Apple’s factories remain fully operational, with no confirmed production cuts in sight.
